Skyline Elementary School - Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Skyline Elementary School's address is 1402 E. Sunrise in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  Our school is located on the northeast side of Stillwater and serves a population of approximately 575 students grades Pre-k through 5th.  Skyline Elementary is a Title I school and receives additional federal funding to support its diverse learning community.  There are 43 certified and 25 support staff members employed at Sklyline.  Skyline's parent support system involves college students and business professionals alike.  We welcome all new families to our educational community and look forward  to enriching the lives of our students.

A Word From Ryan Blake, Principal

This is my fourth year at Skyline Elementary.  My educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Science and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Both degrees were earned at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.  I have served the Stillwater School District in several capacities including: High School Science Teacher/Coach and Junior High Assistant Principal/Activities Director.  I believe my well rounded experience with multiple age groups has been extremely beneficial in preparation for this position.

Everyday I feel privileged to lead the young men and women within our school.  I look forward to continually improving the educational experience for all students at Skyline Elementary School.

Thanks to Stillwater voters, Skyline Elementary received funds from the 2002 bond election to completely renovate the existing school site.  The bond issue allowed for much needed improvements for learning which include:  New gymnasium, Library, and several additional classrooms.  The completed project includes over 86,000 square feet of student learning space.  The three year construction project was completed prior to the start of the 2006-2007 school year.  The Skyline teaching and learning community would like to thank all of individuals involved with the planning, building, and completion of this new educational facility.

Skyline's Responsible Thinking Classroom

In 2005-2006, Skyline Elementary Schools adopted Edward Ford’s behavior management program “The responsible Thinking process”.  This philosophy is based on his book, Discipline for Home and School.  Ed Ford has written several books based on the idea that when the Responsible Thinking Process is properly used, it provides opportunities for educators and parents to teach students how to look within themselves, decide the way they want to be, and restructure their own lives so they can get what they want without violating the rights of others.  We currently have in place a Responsible Thinking Classroom (RTC) staffed by Jill Whitacre.  This approach is working well providing a common discipline structure across all school settings including:  The classroom, recess, lunchtime, transition between classes,  etc…  If you would like more information regarding the Responsible Thinking Process, please contact the main office at Skyline and we can provide you with additional information and resources

Oklahoma National Guard

Skyline Elementary School recently honored Men and Women of Oklahoma's 45th Infantry's National Guard Unit.  Many of these soldiers are parents and spouses within the Skyline community.  Skyline students will communitcate with these troops throughout the next year while they are deployed in Iraq.  Thanks to all parents and faculty members that helped us recognize these brave soldiers, especially Heather Mastin, coordinator of the event.
